Week двенадцать - Serenity [Parker]

We had our Passover Seder this week. Friends around a table remembering what our Lord has done for us. Although there were a large amount of children and much general noise making, there was a sense of peace at the same time. I took a couple of pictures of the candles that we lit at the beginning of the Seder.

And lastly, "because snowmen with teeth are very serene."

Week 12 - Serenity [Nick]

Serenity.
Calmness.
Breathing easily.

Week 12 - Serenity [Aaron]

Serenity
I was eager to begin shooting for "serenity" mostly because I was going to The Sunshine State (Florida) that week for a vacation, and I knew I would have many incredible opportunities for appropriate photographs. I stopped every time I saw an interesting flower or tree or even type of lighting trying to capture the full effect of serenity though my shots. These next pictures that I took definitely justify my interpretation of serenity. And although a trip to the beach never happened, I am still pleased with the following pictures. I did, however, go a little crazy with the shutter button...

Please, feel free to leave a comment saying which one you like the most!
Maybe it will help me decide...

I couldn't decide if I liked the portrait sized one or the landscaped one more...
so I just posted both. Haha!

The sun rising over the St. John's River in Jacksonville, Florida.
So serene...right?

Week 12 - Serenity [Jeannette]

What looks like serenity?

This was the closest I could get.

If you don't think that looks like Serenity, well, then you don't know her name.

Joking aside, my pictures which I like, though they are sadly executed, for serenity.

Week 11 - Valiant [Jeannette]

Valiant. Bold and courageous.

Valiant brings to mind visions of battles, full of bold charging; rescuing maidens in distress; brandishing swords.

Looking for a definition, I found one that was interesting:

valiant: done courageously: characterized by or performed with bravery but often ending in failure

'Tis an interesting idea; it lends itself to what I pictured:

A man stands against foes he is unprepared to meet. It is obvious he cannot win. Why does he remain steadfast? I imagine a woman huddled behind the man in black. His family must be protected, so for the women and children behind him, he stands up against the odds.

What is the difference, I wonder, between foolishness and valiance?

The Lord.

"If God is for us, who can be against us?"

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Only one picture! Aren't you proud of me?

Week 11 - Valiant [Aaron]

Valiant.

The lives of the brave people who lived and died for this country show how valiant they were when they were faced with trial, war, and hardship. These men and women who faithfully served our country to protect our rights and freedoms often remind me of "valiant" by their leading example.
Thank you to all of the valiant troops both home and abroad who gave their lives for freedom, liberty, and justice.

Week 11- Valiant [Rebekah]

When I hear the word "valiant", I see one scene. I see a rolling moor crowned with wild heather, with grey skies above and the waves of a crystal loch peeping in the distance. I see a Scottish warrior clad in a kilt atop a shaggy pony. As he gallops across the open country, I see the glint of a sword on his side.

Now, sadly, I do not live in Scotland, nor do I know anybody who would pose in a kilt for me. This scene was far out of my reach. Since my idea of valiant was not going to work, I was vainly racking my brain for anything that suggested "valiant". (By the way, did you know that the expression "racking your brain" comes from when they tortured prisoners by stretching them on the rack? It's terrible, right?) Finally, I found a fairly realistic plastic gun in my brother's room, and went outside in the cold, wet day. This picture is what I ended up with. It isn't exciting or even amusing, but I like the colors, and the grayness, and the sharpness of it. Even though it isn't quite what I was thinking, I am mildly pleased with it.

But we have to remember, even if we can't be fierce warriors traversing the wilds of Scotland, we can still be valiant.

"For not with sword's loud clashing, nor roll of stirring drums,
But deeds of love and mercy, the heavenly kingdom comes!"
-Lead On, O King Eternal

Week одиннадцать - Valiant [Parker]

’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
      And the mome raths outgrabe.

“Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
      The frumious Bandersnatch!”

He took his vorpal sword in hand;
Long time the manxome foe he sought—
So rested he by the Tumtum tree
      And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
      And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
      The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
      He went galumphing back.

“And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!”
      He chortled in his joy.

’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
      And the mome raths outgrabe.

Week 10 - Splendor [Aaron]

I loved getting some brilliant, sunny pictures from a beautiful "spring day" that we had this week. Over all, I just enjoyed being in the outdoors with my Rebel. Spring is almost here, and I can't wait!
Sorry for the uploading delay. But for now...
Splendor has arrived.

And if I couldn't literally get it outside, I decided to get the outdoors from an inside perspective....
from a magazine!
